FAQ Section
The leading causes of system breakdowns are due to
1 – Improper installation by folks that should not be installing A/C systems due to their lack of knowledge.
2 – Improper or lack of proper yearly maintenance (yearly tune-ups) by someone with knowledge of what and how to do it.
3 – Lack of replacement or cleaning of the air filter on the proper schedule for the type of filtration you have on you’re A/C system.
Newer A/C systems, that use R-410a, have a lifetime of 10 to 15 years, depending upon the skills of the installer; whereas the older systems that used R-22 would last 15 to 20 years As your equipment gets older, its efficiency can decrease dramatically. You may notice that it gets noisier and needs repairs more often. When a unit begins to show its age, you have two choices:
1 – keep spending lots of your hard-earned money to constantly repair the system
2 – replace it.
Because heating and air conditioning technology improves over time, a unit designed with newer, more energy-efficient equipment makes sense, especially if your system is 10 or more years old. Our authorized air conditioning and heating professionals can provide a FREE accurate estimate over phone or text with no waiting on a salesman to show up at your home. Shane’s also can provide the conventional in-home estimate on the cost of a new system.
Industry experts estimate that as many as 70% of all homes with central air have poorly installed ductwork. Ducts that are not properly sealed or insulated fail to get the hot or cool air where you want it efficiently, therefore costing you money.
Before you invest in a new system, make sure a heating and air conditioning professional checks your ducts and includes specific recommendations in their proposal to you.
This can normally be done as part of your in-home estimate. Don’t spend the money on a new, super-efficient system unless you are sure those efficiency gains won’t be lost by poor ductwork.
Most older homes, built in the 90s and before have R-2 or R-4 duct work. Homes built from the 2000s to around the 2020a have R-6 duct work and the newest homes should have R-8 duct work. R-8 is the best duct work you can get today without special order.
There are 4 main components to improve air quality:
1. Germicidal UV Light uses UV technology to continuously sterilize and purify the indoor air you breathe and significantly reduce environmental stresses to your immune system.
2. A Central Humidifier and/or Dehumidifier helps maintains the proper level of moisture in your home, which reduces static electricity and helps you feel warmer in winter and more comfortable year-round.
3. Energy Recover Ventilators bring fresh outside air into your home while expelling stale air.
4. An Electronic Air Cleaner is an additional filtration intended to reduce airborne allergens.
It depends. If you’re existing unit is too small, then it won’t be able to cool off the home properly causing it to not reach your desired temperature setting in the hottest days causing the system to run longer thereby removing too much moisture, making the interior of the home uncomfortable and harder to cool as well as causing dry rot and cracking of sheetrock and other items;
On the other hand if it’s too large for your particular home, then it won’t run long enough to take the humidity out the house, and you’ll get mold growing on the window seals and possibly other place.
The air conditioning system must be sized to correctly match your homes heat load in order get the most comfort and most energy savings out of your HVAC system.

The size and complexity of your HVAC issue will determine the cost. Because our trained, licensed HVAC technicians must diagnose the issue before we are able to quote you an accurate cost, we require an appointment to be set to complete a diagnostic on your system or after speaking to us about your issues you can take pictures we request of your existing system and send it to us and we can give you an accurate over the phone/text quote. Once the diagnostic is complete, so there are never any surprise fees.
There are many reasons that you A/C system is not working.
This could be as simple as a clogged drain line or blocked filter. But a major component problem is another possibility. It could also be an electrical issue like a tripped breaker.
If you’ve never dealt with a tripped breaker, you should get a professional to diagnose the issue as a tripped breaker is an indication of a much larger problem. Check to see if your outdoor condenser is running. If not, you may have a clogged drain line, which is one of the most common problems with A/C units in southern humid climates.
Other reasons include a condenser unit blocked by debris, a frozen evaporator coil, a refrigerant leak, or an undersized air conditioner. We also see a lot of damages from animals and weed eaters used by lawn care folks.
Most contractors recommend replacing your A/C system if a repair cost equals more than half the unit’s value. Plus, you’ll likely need additional repairs if the unit is over 10 years old.
A new A/C can earn some of the cost back in the form of energy savings over time as well as tax rebates. Sometimes a repair is the right thing to do; it depends upon the situation. Ask your tech for advice or call our office and speak to the manager.
